Peter’s Soliloquy
*lights come up solely on Peter*
For two years now I’ve been waiting and working! It’s easy
enough to get a girl to like you when you’re in my profession,
but to get her to really love you, my G-d it’s hard! I am so
lucky to have found Martha, she doesn’t care if I can get a job,
or make money, she believes that I can! That’s all that matters
to me. She believes in me and she loves me, I couldn’t be
luckier! My Martha…*drifts off*
There are others though, who have made a difference in my
life my sister, Abby, and my best friend, who might as well be
another sister, Ruhe. If it weren’t for Ruhe, I would never be
here, at my wedding, in the first place. She was the one who
introduced me to Martha.
Ruhe and Abby have been friends ever since junior high but,
when we got to high school though they were suddenly
surrounded by others. My two "sisters" weren’t in the same
classes and hardly ever saw each other. Therefore, on
weekends Ruhe would always be over at my parent’s house
with Abby and me. One weekend when Ruhe came over she
brought along a friend. It turned out to be Martha, I didn’t
know that then. That day all I knew was that Ruhe’s new friend
was drop dead gorgeous!
Martha, as I soon learned she was called, had long black,
straight hair. She had these eyes that made me feel as if she
could see through me and her voice…wow! Her voice was
high, and melodic, and absolutely beautiful. It’s too bad she
doesn’t think so.
I know Ruhe never intended for Martha and I to get
together. In fact, I remember the day Martha and I told Ruhe-
she was shocked! She never admitted it, but she got scared!
The first day we told her, she was thrilled, it was so clear she
was ready to jump through the roof because of it. By the
second day…well, I remember hugging her, but she didn’t hug
me back like normal. She seemed scared and I think she was. I
don’t know why she never said anything about it, but not a
word escaped her lips. Ruhe is without a doubt one of the
warmest, most caring people I’ve ever known and I am blessed
to have her as a friend.
There’s always a back story to everything, as I keep
demonstrating. The one of how I met Ruhe is not one of
particular interest and yet, it’s one that makes me feel incredibly
connected to both of my sisters, the one who is related to me
by blood and the one who is not. When Abby and I were in
sixth grade I remember every night at dinner she would talk
about this one girl named Ruhe. I’d want to talk about my new
buddy John, but it was constantly "Ruhe did this, and Ruhe did
that". I never even got a chance to talk about my new friend,
who later became Abby’s boyfriend!
One night I actually did confront Abby about this. She told
me she did not do what I said she did! *rolls eyes* Sisters! We
kept bickering for half an hour. Then the doorbell rang and it
was for Abby. She and I kept yelling at each other all the way
down the stairs. When we got to the front door there was
Ruhe. Abby and I were still arguing until Ruhe told us to be
quiet. Abby was stunned! I was unused to how quiet Ruhe
normally was and didn’t notice. Ruhe sat Abby and me down
and began to talk some sense into us.
Abby and I owe Ruhe a lot for that. Ever since that day,
when Ruhe helped us work through that problem Abby and I
have always managed to talk things out, instead of screaming at
each other. If Ruhe had never entered our lives, I doubt Abby
and I would see how lucky we are to have each other.
Who I saw Abby as then and who I see her as now are two
totally different people. Now what I see in Abby, though I do
recognize her faults, is a sister. Someone who is related to me
by blood, and yet by so much more! Abby catches me every
time I fall; she’s always there for me. She’s always proud of
me, even if the only thing I do is have a half way decent lesson.
It explains why Abby, Ruhe, and I are such a great family and
such great friends and it also explains why when Martha was
ready to marry into our family she received the warmest
welcomes from the people I loved!
I am blessed with a family who loves me and cares deeply
about me. With Martha marrying into this family, it just
continues to grow! I am so lucky to have Martha. The past two
years have been hard and full of working and waiting, but in the
end, it is always worth it!
